About Us

Where Passion Meets Partnership

From the moment she first encountered a horse, Nicola has been captivated by their spirit, intelligence, and subtle ways of communicating. Over the years, she has worked with every type of horse - from free-roaming bush ponies to highly trained performance athletes, developing a deep respect for their nature and a keen understanding of their behaviour and well-being.

In 2024, Nicola completed her certification in The Masterson Method® Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork, an approach that combines gentle touch, subtle movement, and careful observation to help horses release tension and discomfort. Today, she not only works with horses to restore comfort and fluidity but also guides their owners to truly understand them - strengthening trust, enhancing communication, and fostering shared goals both in and out of the saddle.

With a degree in education and more than 20 years of teaching experience, Nicola brings patience, clarity, and a genuine love of helping people learn into everything she does. Her approach is always supportive, encouraging, and tailored to each individual - human or equine.

A Place to Grow Together

Nicola and her husband, Shane, own and operate a sheep and beef farm in Taranaki, New Zealand, where they breed and train their own young horses. This is Equine Body & Mind's home base. Visitors are always welcome - whether for lessons, training, or trail riding.

The farm features:

  • An all-weather, wooden rails round pen
  • Obstacles for Working Equitation and Cowboy Challenge
  • A covered yard and two enclosed stables
  • Small, flat paddocks alongside 1,500 acres of scenic hill country

At Equine Body & Mind, every horse is treated with care, respect, and understanding. Here, humans and horses come together to learn, grow, and enjoy the journey side by side.
